4. Granules in Your Gutters When you see little colored rocks in the gutters, your shingles are shedding protective granules — a major red flag.

5. Water Stains on Your Ceiling or in the Attic This means moss has already allowed water under the shingles. You’re now in repair territory.

6. Shingles That Feel Soft or Look Cupped Moss holds water so long that the shingles start to rot from the top down.
